The Knysna forests conjure images from Dalene Matthee's well-read stories - phantom elephants, giant Yellowwood trees, Italian settlers and lost...
Hardy Loubser is a forest guide for Bhejane tours and facilitates experiences into forests either by foot or vehicle. His in-depth knowledge of the Knysna forests allows visitors a glimpse into secret folklore and his love of the Southern Cape. He has a keen interest in regenerative agriculture with an emphasis on food forests.
Hardy grew up in the Free State where his dream of walking in the forest was born after reading the famous South African book by Dalene Matthee ‘Circles in a Forest’. Now he, his partner, their two dogs and two cats live happily nestled within the Harkerville indigenous forest close to Plettenberg Bay. Here, Hardy continues to foster a deep understanding of the area’s historical significance in relation to the ancient people who lived along the coastline and within the forests, as well as the woodcutters and early settlers who relied on the forests for their livelihoods.
He also has a keen interest in the elusive Knysna elephant(s), leopards and other secretive wildlife.
